The Directorate General of Food (DGFOOD) is an organization of Ministry of Food. In 1943, the then government established Bengali Civil Supplies Department for solving the famine. This department was abolished in 1956. After abolishing the Bengali Civil Supplies Department, food price was increased at abnormal level and chaos spread in the country. As a result, the then government re-established the food department. In 1957, the then government adopted some measures and made this food department as a permanent department. After the liberation of Bangladesh, Food and Civil Supplies Department was formed with five departments. Later Food and Civil Supplies Department formally institutionalized as the Directorate General of Food (DGFOOD).
