BARDEM (Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders) is a multipurpose medical service, higher education and research institute located in Shahbag, Dhaka. This central institution of the Bangladesh Diabetic Association, established in 1960 on government-funded land provided by the Government of Bangladesh, is housed in three large buildings. The hospital, housed in a 15-storeyed building, currently has 542 beds, of which 60 are free beds for poor patients. On average, about 3000 patients come here every day for health care. The hospital also has almost all branches of clinical medical science with skilled manpower and advanced equipment. Diabetes nondiabetic is treated for all patients, but diabetic patients are given priority. Bardem has a separate research department with full-time manpower. These activities are carried out in collaboration with various local and international research institutes.
